Counselling in Bridgwater With Henriette
Anxiety and Stress are not stand-alone conditions. They are often linked to low self-esteem, lack of confidence, bullying or traumatic experiences which, can result in depression. Any combination of these issues can hold you back from living your life to its full potential.
How Counselling works
There are many different types of counselling and psychotherapeutic styles. Read more about me and the professional qualifications and development I gained over the years. Our sessions will involve an integration of techniques and styles to suit each person in a more individualistic way. But amongst other interventions counselling may include the following:
- Our first few sessions will explore your reasons for the anxiety or stress and how it is affecting your self-esteem, confidence or other parts of your daily living. Although humans have evolved to have anxiety and stress reactions in order to keep pre-historic man safe, there is no need to be hypervigilant all the time. Constant anxiety can have detrimental effects not only on the mind and cognition, but also the physiological body and its organ and hormonal functions.
- From the onset though - if there is a need for it - I would inform you of certain coping strategies to manage your anxiety and stress. Interventions or techniques will be demonstrated during our sessions and handouts will be provided so you can use the exercises at home too. This might have some psycho-educational aspects to the sessions which brings understanding about not only your own reactions, but also common human behaviours. Handouts will also be provided occasionally.
- With counselling support confidence and self-esteem can start to grow once you are able to manage your anxiety in a more knowledgable way. We feed our own fears, so it is important to do this work with a non-judgmental counsellor in a confidential and safe place.
Counselling is a useful way to find out how anxiety or stress in your life have kept you from living the life you want to live. Getting to know your own feelings and unfulfilled emotional human needs may provide you with a roadmap on how to improve your self-esteem and confidence so that your "best version of yourself" can fully participate in life again. Exploring these delicate and often complex issues needs to be done in a safe and confidential environment with a professional counsellor.
